Tracking

Step tracking

Reading step counts from Apple Health or Health Connect.

Step tracking reads your daily step count from Apple Health or Health Connect. Turn it on under Settings, Step Tracking.

The step tracking settings, showing daily step count against a configurable goal, read from Apple Health.

The default goal is 7,000 steps a day. Food Loops doesn't count steps itself — it reads what your phone or watch has already recorded, so there's no additional battery cost.

Steps and calories

Step count doesn't change your calorie target. Your activity level setting already accounts for typical daily movement, and adding measured steps on top of it would double-count. If your activity has genuinely changed, update the activity level in Settings rather than expecting steps to adjust it.
